Ice.

Your embrace set my flesh on fire––

As if the very depths of hell had me in its clutches.

My skin burned from the fire of a thousands suns.

Your cheek on my shoulder, my hands on your waist––

The soft touch of your fingers on my neck

Sending waves of heat and desire coursing through my veins.

Your release left me frigid and lifeless,

Claimed by breathless ice of the highest peaks.

I yearned to taste your air–– for you to breathe the life back into me.

I thought of your soft lips brushing against mine,

Melting my frozen heart and releasing me from my glacial prison.

You pulled me from the cold reality I lived

And set my soul alight.

You whispered to me, “never let that fire die”

As a single frigid tear rolled down your silken cheek.

I lost you and found emptiness––

The fire you lit sputtering in the cold, struggling to stay bright.

I was thrown into the cold darkness of an ethereal void,

So far away from your warm embrace.

Lost, searching for you, clinging to your last words to me.

My chest felt hollow and my mind empty;

The darkness tearing at me, trying to extinguish your flame.

I fought the cold that gripped the edges of my heart,

Waging a hopeless war against everything real.

I clung to that last memory of you:

Remembering that kiss, that sweet embrace, those soft words––

The memory of which rekindled the fire you lit,

Giving me the strength to fill the hole you left when I lost you.
