Any love for the Tyco Turbo Hopper?

When I was a kid, a "rich" kid I knew had a Grasshopper. My parents couldn't afford it so I saved my money and got a red Tyco Turbo Hopper. It was brutal on batteries, but it was so much fun. I ran it til the tires were bald and everything wobbled. It wasn't hobby grade, but it sure brought hours of fun. https://rcmemories.files.wordpress.com/2012/05/tycoturbohopper0011.jpg

I have a strange memory of the Turbo Hopper. I had this Tyco r/c car as a kid and I distinctly, 100% remember it as being called a Turbo Hopper (i know it's got Turbo Outlaw decals on it, but i still believe it was a hopper). I still to this day swear up and down that's what it was called, but some Google searches in recent years has shown me that it apparently was not. I live in Canada so maybe it was relabeled or something, or maybe I had the same car you linked also and am just mashing memories together, I don't know. But whenever I hear Turbo Hopper I think of this Sprint car and it gives me a great feeling of nostalgia. Regardless, it was the greatest r/c car I've ever owned outside of hobby grade stuff. They sure don't make toy grade r/c like they used to. Everything you find at Wal-Mart etc these days is junk.

Funny you should say that. When I was looking at images for Turbo Hopper I kept finding some that looked nearly identical called a Jet Hopper. I don't know if they labeled them differently in other places. I was under the impression when I bought it, it was a new model of toy grade buggy type where no one had offered one before.

My dad gave me his Turbo Hopper when I was a kid. I played with it off and on for years. I found this sub a year ago and the rest is history. That Turbo Hopper totally gave me a love for RC cars. Looking at how small it is compared to how massive I felt it was back then, it's crazy.

I had a turbo bandit and it was the tits! Ran that thing till i broke a control arm (i think) then busted out super glue (after attempting to buy replacement parts from tyco) and used some random toy bits to reinforce it and cobbled that sucker back to life!

Turbo bandit was so good. I had a 27 mhz and my sister had the 49. Mine was faster.

That was the truck right? That thing was awesome! I had a radioshack knockoff of a tamiya hornet I think. It was cool but I always wanted the turbo hopper or bandit... Then I acquired a tower Hobbies catalog. Game Over.

Cut my RC teeth on a Hopper and Bandit before moving into hobby grade RCs. They were fun little yard bashers and they jumped the curb readily.

Oh man I totally had one of these but I forgot all about it! I was kind of a nerdy little kid and I was very interested in batteries and stuff. I remember I had some rechargeable ni-cads that I used in my Turbo Hopper. I used it a lot until I eventually got a Tyco Bandit which I remember being insanely fast compared to the hopper. Was always kind of jealous of my neighbor who had one of those Tyco hovercrafts!
