The Tiger's back lads, €5.99 for a breakfast roll in Grandons in Glanmire. It's the most I've ever come across and it can't be far off being the most expensive in the country either.

The manager was there so I asked him about it and he said that was the price for a 5 piece roll, but I said it says on the list on the wall that a 5 piece is only €4.99, sausage, rasher, hashbrown, white pudding and egg, and he said but you got 2 sausages, lol, I said that it's only ever €4.99 every other Saturday morning when I call and he just very bluntly said it is what it is that's the price! I said no bother the best thing you can do so is keep it and walked out.

I drove 2 minutes up the road to the filling station in Whites Cross and as I drove in I noticed that their diesel was selling for 99.7 cent per liter, filled it up, then I went in and got the exact same roll for €3.99, that's more like it.

It's not the money, I'm the most reckless person in the world when it comes to money, in fact my favorite pasttime is checking the pockets of my dirty pants as I put them in to be washed and very regularly finding €20 or even €50 that I've completely forgotten about, like most people I hate complaining but €5.99 for a breakfast roll? Not going to happen in this lifetime!

Sorry for the rant, the end!

Wait, wait wait.... are you telling me an Irish person inquired about the price before assuming a good or service would be a reasonable value. Then calmly used their free will to choose a cheaper alternative elsewhere, without getting mad or feeling personally insulted when it was higher than expected?

random12112•

Nah bro, you got it all wrong...

The entitled prick had it made up, they decided to charge him an extra euro for a sausage so he told them to go fuck themselves (and all the starving children in Africa) and left.

The roll went into the bin no doubt.

The roll went into the nearest hungry staff member.

Don't come to Dublin. It'll kill you.

I once paid €6.50 for a pint in The Church just off Henry Street, Dublin. Unfortunately the receipt is long gone, but I'm sure if you go in there and enquire they'll let you know. It was a fancy dan Franciscan Well Weissbier, but still.

4
spidersthrash•

That would cost you €5.50-6 anywhere in the city. The extra €.50/1 was because you were drinking in The Church; the place where people go to role play it still being 2007.

The Hophouse on Parnell St. does pints of Tuborg for €3.50 and it's grand. Cheapest I've found anyway.

Well I guess you're the expert. What should we do u/jumbo_breakfast_roll??

1
feedthebear•

Inflation is occuring at a faster rate than increases in wages. This min wage increase is really not much of an increase, it's just an offset against inflation. I bought a mars bar and a cream egg the other day. They're about two thirds of the side of what we know mars bars and creme eggs to be. Not only that but the idea now that chocolate bars are €1 or more each now is crazy. The products are getting smaller and the prices are going up.

11
yawnz0r•

And Cadbury's chocolate is now shit, which makes it worse.

5
random12112•

It's basically minimum 2.70 per bus fare in Dublin, because let's face it the smaller fare only covers what is walkable...

That's 5.40 return journey minimum. That's ~60% of an hours work on minimum wage. Something's gotta give... There'll be a fuckin revolution one of these days mark my words.

*Edit: I just went through the survey on smartvote.ie and the following was a indicator - "Public Sector salaries should be based on job performance as well as length of service." WTF? They aren't already? Maybe we should start here

4†
lampishthing•

Ah here. It's 2.05 for a journey on dublin bus. If you're not using a leap card you're being stubborn.

13
taken_already_is•

The cross city fare from glorious Parnell square to Saint Stephen's green - that's cheaper than 2.70.

4
random12112•

Classic moving of the goalposts here, I had already ruled out the smallest fare.

It's actually also BULLSHIT

-4†
lampishthing•

That isn't the lowest fare. The lowest fare is 1.50. The 2.05 fare gets me from glasnevin to ranelagh.

9
lampishthing•

Also your link was for very long journeys only. The rest of the fares can be seen here: https://about.leapcard.ie/about/fares-discounts

cruiscinlan•

What are you on about? They are. Also public sector pay is less now than it was in 2008 meaning a substantial cut in real terms.

3
moogintroll•

There'll be a fuckin revolution one of these days mark my words.

Yea, people have been saying that since 2008. You know what the great Irish revolution of 2016 is going to be? Voting FF back in.

3

There was also noticeable decreases in clothing and footwear (-4.5 per cent), food and non-alcoholic beverages (-2.4 per cent) and household equipment and furnishings (-2.4 per cent).

Jaysus. That's awful. €2 for a chicken fillet roll in Costcutters Dorset Street in Dublin. €2.99 for one with a can of coke in Gala Abbey Street, they even let you have cheese as one of the toppings. I've found other places tend to charge beyond their deal price for cheese.

theres a few places on bolton street at that price, centra, pitta pan, spar. Declan's Deli is €3.50 but you get a less shitty roll, shout out to Deco

It's not the money, I'm the most reckless person in the world when it comes to money,

Why are you wrecking some poor bastard's head over it so? Just pay the price this time and don't go in there any more. Instead of giving the manager of the shop, who I'm sure has to do without listening to you shiteing on about the price of a fucking sandwich, shit about it. People who give service staff shit are on the same social scale as pedo's. Cop the fuck on.

Or maybe your just one of those cunty Yelper types

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDlR_ccnZww

Or maybe your a woman!!! If you are, I bet you have this type of hair cut. Also known as the Cunt cap.

-25
JosephBarnacle•

It's not like he abused some random cashier. He had a problem with the price and spoke to the manager, who in a lot of shops would be the person who set the price. Now he may be falsely representing himself as a cool and polite person, but you can't just assume that OP barged in guns blazing and rudely protesting.

16
random12112•

A lot of food went to waste. It was his responsibility to ask for the price before the roll was made, the fact he was being undercharged previously is lucky but irrelevant.

-12
ItsTyrrellYo•

Man you have no idea how much gets thrown out in shops if you think that's a lot of food to waste

9
random12112•

I do have an idea, it's a larger amount of food to waste.

They could have prevented that food going to waste, cos ya now, they ordered it.

-5
iLauraawr•

But OP knew the price of the roll beforehand because the price for it was advertised in the shop. Not his fault that they put in 2 sausages.

3
JosephBarnacle•

Sounds more like he wasn't undercharged before, but actually overcharged this time. Also it is his right not to buy something. Next you're going to talk about the 'starving children in africa' not getting the easter food :)

1
random12112•

So basically I should be allowed enter a restaurant order a meal, balk at the price when it's put in front of me and leave now? That's good social etiquette is it?

I wouldn't call that giving service staff shit, and I'm generally the type to be very annoyed when I see that happen.

I worked in an overpriced place when I worked in the service industry, and got plenty of complaints about overcharging. Didn't bother me a bit. Sure I don't set the prices. I doubt it bothered your man much either.

Occasionally someone would get very overwrought and indignant at how much we charged, which I generally just found quite funny. "oh yes sir, I know it's expensive. Sure that's why I'm on this side of the transaction and not that one".

4
DeGaulleSucksCock•

My point is why bother? what was the point of it all. Why stand there and give 3-5 minutes out of your day to point out to someone, who knows but doesn't give a shit, that the sandwich is overpriced. Just pay the extra euro, because he is sooo reckless with his money, and not go in there again.

-6
yawnz0r•

Just pay the extra euro

Why?

3
sartres-shart•

Because, if your soo reckless with your money as you said yourself, why bother speaking to the manager at all. Just pay the euro and move on with your life and don't go into that shop for a sandwich in the future.
