ID check on free museum days?

I was thinking of going to Shedd and Adler this week during the free museum days. I don't have an Illinois ID. Do they check IDs or just ask for zip code. When I went to MSI last year, all they asked for was zip code. I do have my utility bill with my Chicago address on it though.

I just emailed both of these places with the same question and they said two pieces of mail that match the name on my ID will work - doesn't have to be an IL ID.

When I went to AIC recently they asked for ZIP code then asked for ID

I gave a ZIP code and lied about forgetting my ID home at Field Museum, it worked.

You dont need an IL ID, just bring a piece of mail with your address on it.

I went to Adler and they asked for an ID. But I went with my boyfriend and they only needed one for 2 people. So if you know anyone with an IL ID that would like to go with you, they can get you in.

Just get an ID and start participating in our local economy and tax schedules.

I've been ID'd any time I went to the museums on free days--which I don't even recommend, honestly. It's so, so, so crowded, the Shedd line yesterday was literally out to the underpass. But if you really are set on going, I think mail would work.

Yesterday was a weekend though, I've seen it on free weekdays barely go out the front door.

I guess it depends on the day. Schools tend to take advantage of the free days as well, but that's to be expected of any Chicago museum.

I went on Saturday, and while the line for Shedd was long, I got right into the Field Museum.

OP, the woman that let my family in only looked at my ID and not my wife's (she still has her California ID).

Funnily enough that was exactly what happened to me. Walked right in. Guess nobody cares about natural history :(
