Yet more of why we need to stop blaming ourselves
I’ve been trying to think of a smooth way to bring this in, but I guess there isn’t one. And I apologize in advance for introducing a topic that may not seem relevant, but bear with me.
For those of you who don’t know who Marc Gafni is, he’s a religious guru who has recently been in the news for sexually abusing female members of his cult. This letter was written by his ex-wife to one of Gafni’s victims who apologized to her for sleeping with her husband. This is probably the strongest presentation of why cult members need to stop blaming themselves and start directing that blame on those who were responsible for dragging them in.

I know I probably talk about self-forgiveness excessively, but so many of us take the blame for something we were not responsible for. We've been hurt enough . . . there's no reason to keep punishing ourselves for something we did when our ability to choose was impaired.
