Coffee and Gum (had some issues formatting)

Coffee and gum,
breakfast when I was young,
my tired eyes ache
having just stretched awake,
thinking about her long
legs, square jaw, thick calves,
motivation to get to my seat in math
to hear her "good morning”
shake me like the first bell.
Coffee and gum,
breakfast when I was sixteen,
with mountains to climb
and rocks tumbling down at me.
Go ahead and cry “Avalanche!”
because no one will even hear
anything other than your mouth chewing
and your feet tapping.
Coffee and gum,
breakfast before I knew anything,
I stretched and yawned
in my orange chucks every chance
I could, waiting for tomorrow
to come and for the sun to thaw my little slice
of life, not realizing until it did
that some things are better cold,
the way I found them.
