We get it, poets

We get it, poets.

Things are like other things.

But things I care not about,

and people are all the same

so why not

write some poetry about them ?

Bards are dead, talent is thin

and poets are locked away

until the great second sin

is burnt down in my ashtray.

I should have given everyone a face.

A little confused as to your choice of lines dividing everything up. It makes the piece feel disjointed. Section One and Two definitely fit together subject wise; so I see the point in the line between Sections Two and Three. And the last line kind of feels like it might belong with Sections One and Two too.

I like this very much. The opening lines are so wonderfully jaded and somehow mange to reduce poetry down to one of its most fundamental concepts (things are like other things). And the last line is great too. Suggests regret about oversimplifying things, perhaps. Good job, I think.

I can easily see this being done as a poetry slam piece or as a spoken word performance with far less gusto. It is sharp and concise, an arrow to the action. Last line there really resonates in a strange way - I'm not sure how to process that yet. Good piece!

It's got an attitude, I notice that immediately. It put me off a little right from the start, tbh, like you are tired of hearing about poetry and poets and yet you're writing a poem yourself. Like it contradicts itself? Not trying to be a jerk, just what I thought when reading it.

I liked how the third section had the meter, thin rhymes with sin and away with ashtray. One way to look at writing a poem is to use those rules, not that you have to but try to make yourself write something that way. The words rhyme, or the lines have about the same number of beats. It can lead to some interesting writing if you get into looking at it that way, like a challenge. Not just making words rhyme, but also conveying a meaning in the process. Good luck.
