DONTNOD's previous title, Remember Me, is 80% off! (Steam)

Missing flair

I know this isn't exactly Life Is Strange news but I figured some people may want to try out DONTNOD's other release!

It's currently $5.99 for the base game and $0.79 for the DLC on Steam.

I would say for a first game they did a pretty good job. Though, I think coming out around the same time of The Last of Us really did fuck them lol.

Can anyone recommend it?

For 6$ ? Yes. Combat is a little fun after you get some more combos, bossfights are not too challenging, but also not made for braindead players, story is so and so, but quite enjoyable. Some minor plot twists that catch you off guard, but nothing on LiS Ep4 level. And if all fails, the main character Nilin has a pretty damn nice butt and a cute accent from time to time, so thats worth 6$ alone in my eyes.

Im serious, whoever modeled that ass at Dontnod deserves a fucking award.

Speaking of butts (both in Remember Me and LiS)...

WHY

WHY DO YOU LINK THIS

No agenda here - I just thought it was interesting as the video references both Remember Me and Life is Strange - both Dontnod games - as separate examples from both ends of the spectrum.

Not sure why it garnered the downvotes, but whatever. :)

Combat is meh, art and sound are terrific. Story has an interesting premise that was worth my while. Definitely worth it for 6$.

If you don't mind a game that is mediocre in gameplay but looks and sounds absolutely fucking beautiful, buy it posthaste.

Seriously, Remember Me is what hooked me on Dontnod because they clearly had something in them.

Yeah, it was an inspired work, but maybe needed some polish. It was like Dontnods version of Resevoir Dogs, clearly talented but lacking experience. Now that Life is Strange is so good, we can see it paid off to cut their teeth.

It's pretty good. I'm not hugely into brawlers that don't use Arkham-style combat, but I bought it to see how Dontnod handled combat mechanics.

Well, the story is alright. It's pretty good, and I like how the character having amnesia is a plot point because it puts her in the same situation that the player is in. The characters are the game's strength, as I expected from Dontnod, and the Memory Remix sequences are a particular highlight that will seem VERY familiar to anyone subbed here.

That said, there are some very interesting implications that are just ignored, and one plot thread that I was really looking forward to seeing play out that it turns out wasn't a plot thread at all because nothing happens involving that character after the event that made me interested in them (avoiding spoilers is fuuun).

My big problem with the story is that the events that led up to the memory u/dystopia the game takes place in seem to jump in scale far too rapidly. That said, it kept me interested until the end, even if I managed to guess the twist.

It looks great for a UE3 game, and ran well on my gaming laptop.

The combat is interesting, and once you get used to it it's pretty fun, but lacks variety. There are basically only four combos you'll need to know IIRC, it might be five, but it does demand situational awareness and some planning, and is overall pretty interesting. The controls seem fairly responsive (if a bit stiff) and you can't just button-mash your way to victory. Having said this, I have little experience in this genre, so seek out an opinion on that from someone who's played Okami or anything by Platinum Games, as those seem to be the gold standards for non-Arkham-style brawlers.

It's worth the $6 at least, I got it for $7.50 IIRC and didn't feel ripped off.

One last thing that I have to say about it: What is it with Dontnod and people doing things by extending their right hand? There's another large LiS similarity, but I really don't want to spoil so I won't say what it is.

A point I found interesting in general...when the original 3 devs for LiS approached the Dontnod higher ups about wanting to branch over on their own game, the only restriction was that they somehow implemented the mechanics behind the memory rewind into the new game, since the company had spent some time developing that.

The fighting is a bit repetitive. The world is really interesting, which meant the lack of exploration was really disappointing.

Despite those drawbacks, its still worth while. I certainly enjoyed it and for 6 bucks, its worth it.

The environments are probably the best aspects of the game. Level design is great. Gameplay and story are both very ambitious and suffer a little for it, but definitely worth a playthrough if you can grab it on sale. There are all kinds of subtle environmental storytelling throughout, the world was clearly lovingly crafted.

The combat system on paper looks cool. Make your own combo that's a combination of power, HP restoration, and "special" restoration (forgot what the special moves are called in game) but in reality, I think by about half way through the game, I had two combos that would just wail on the enemy, and then fake them out to bring up any health I may have lost.

That said, it was an intriguing game with an interesting story and it looks so so nice. Definitely can't go wrong at $6.

If you're on the fence about getting this game, get it. Enough said. Like someone else said, the art and soundtrack of this game is absolutely amazing. Some people didn't like the combat, but I personally did. Even after I beat it, it was still fun to play through it again.

And for $6... wow.

It's my first Dontnod game and I loved it, especially Neo-Paris setting. It's so sad that open-world gameplay became non-existant in the final version.
