Stardust
It seems that we
are millions of miles
from where we began.
Light years of endless empty space
between who we were
and who we are
and who we will be.
Our orbits faintly out of sync,
coming within a stones throw
(as far as galaxies go)
only to separate again
as our predetermined paths
lay out, incongruent, and non-paralleled
across the dark, untold depths
of this universe of our making.
Who will we be
when our paths may cross again?
And yet,
stepping outside this simplistic,
two-dimensional view,
of what we are,
and who we are,
and where we are
We realize that
our paths have been traveling along
together this entire time.
Through this crepuscule
our cosmic blueprints
have been the same.
Our carbon copies
carbon copies
of carbon, copied
again and again
as stardust gives birth
to countless breaths.
We realize at once
that we are the architects
and we are the ziggurat.
We are the creators,
and we are the created.
We are the stardust,
and we are also the stars.
This universe
and all that dwells within
are born from our stardust
and born on our backs
because this universe
and all that dwells within
were born precisely
by us.
For us.
And with this knowledge,
the light years of space,
the immeasurable darkness,
and the distance between
who we were
and who we are
and who we will be
Seems nothing more than
an infinitesimal, momentary blip
along this journey we are on together
as we walk hand-in-hand
across the endless,
unfathomable wonder
of this cosmos
built for two.
