Weddle as offseason target?

Nailed it
I really like Coleman at FS instead of SS to be honest. He's much better at reading the QB than Tre or Roman. Idk about Weddle; haven't watched much film on him.
So we would have 3 FS's and no SS?
Literally the only big signing I see us doing.
The only one and that's still stretching it because we have Coleman and Boston ready to roll at safety but damn this guy would bring leadership to the team. He would be a first year captain.
Boston is fantastic depth, I want us to keep him on the bench so we can re-sign him for cheap though, cause I think he can be a really good Safety if he keeps learning.
On the other hand, the Steelers select for enforcers, a role that Weddle doesn't fill.
Since he'd be taking the Harper role, the same goes for the Panthers doesn't it?
Coleman and Weddle are similar safeties. They're capable of playing in the box but it's not their specialty and I think we are better off having true SS next to Coleman.
Found this mic'd up video from 2014, he'd obviously fit from a character standpoint he's also pretty funny http://www.chargers.com/video/2014/09/23/micd-eric-weddle
I think Shaq Thompson's ability can negate some of the need for a true SS.
Yea I'm thinking if we don't bring in a true SS that's the plan.
A corner like Norman allows a ton of flexibility with the safeties.
Oooooh, you just made my argument against him void with that point. McDermott would scheme around.
I love this guy. Im from utah so hes always been on my radar, i just really dislike the chargers for reasons of the past... Would freaking LOVE to have Weddle on the panthers and theres no doubt in my mind he and coach rivera could get a ring year one.
Weddle is 31. He plays FS, a spot we are already good at. Coleman had 7 INTs in the regular season and 2 in the playoffs. Boston is a FS, but has played well subbing for Harper at SS.
He's a great player, but he's going to command a price that I'd rather not see paid for a position where we already have a young player ready to step up.
I'd love for the Panthers to add Weddle, but at the same time I think the Panthers need to look for younger talent.
Add Weddle, draft a young hard hitting saftey to sit behind Weddle for 2 years, once Weddle leaves put him in the starting role.
Or just let Boston learn for another couple years.
If he was more of a SS I would like to take him and Cash out of Duke to be our future Box Safety. But I feel he and Coleman are just very similar style FS's.
What kind of younger talent? I'd love to see us draft a DE in the first then a OT second
I was thinking some young talented DBs would be nice, someone to compliment Josh Norman.
Oh my god. A secondary consisting of:
Josh Norman and Bene Benwikere on the outsides, Tillman/Mcclain/Finnegan on the inside, and Coleman/Boston and Weddle at saftey. Add in our linebacking core, KK and Star, and Ealy along with either Delaire or someone from the first round and we could be the best defense in the league.
I can only get so errect.
Fully torqued.
I would imagine Bene would play the nickel like he did this year if we have Tillman. Tillman isn't quick enough to handle shifty slot receivers.
He's the only free agent I'd really want.

Hyping ourselves up for Eric Weddle or Olivier Vernon, when in reality, our 'premiere' signing will probably be Sean Smith, Quinton Coples or someone of that ilk lol
Quinton Coples is intriguing. I think we put in a claim for him when he was releases.
I wanted us to draft Coples in 2012 as I thought he would be a good pass rusher. He looked completely out of his element as 3-4 OLB with the jets. If we replace CJ with him I think we would be set on our starting Defense.
De's: Ealy, Coples
DT's: KK, Star
LB's: Davis, Kuechly, Thompson
CB's: Norman, Bene
S's: Coleman, Boston(more FS than SS but can play the role fine.)
I don't know if Coples is that good that we can plug him into a starting role day one...but I would like him as a backup.
That is understandable. I just feel like he was one of the players who got shafted by getting drafted by a team who couldn't use his abilities.
If our FA class consists of Sean Smith and Coples plus the typical Gettleman dumpster diving I'd be quite happy. Especially if he's able to lock up some combination of KK/Josh/Star with the money he saves.
I would absolutely love to have him, but I think Boston is ready to start. Also weddle is gonna command a big price. I'd much rather spend our money securing kk and star and tag Norman
Obviously those are huge priorities as well. But, given his relationship with the Chargers, it may be do-able/ relatively reasonable compared to what it would take to bring back an aging Harper. Plus it would reunite him with Ron and who wouldn't want to be apart of this secondary with the front 7 we have in place. I'd love to see it happen
I'd absolutely love it, and I'd at least make the call. Just like I'd make a call to alshon Jeffery who has said he'd love to be a panther. But unless they are willing to take a pay cut for a legit shot at a ring. I don't see it happening. Gets doesn't make splash moves and either would be a splash IMHO.
Absolutely. It would be out of character and I'm not banking on it but it does make sense in this case and could see it happening if they are willing to play for a ring. I'd like to see Alshon come too, but I think Weddle fills a bigger need and we could just draft Pharaoh Cooper in the 4-5th round.
While Pharaoh is a talent for sure. I'll take Jeffery over him any day. I honestly don't think either happens, but I'd make the call and see what it would take. Hell I'd offer Chicago cj for Jeffery.
I would love if Alshon took a hometown discount. Imagine that recieving core
KB13, Alshon, Funchess, Ginn, Brown, and Olsen. League fucked when a run first offence has one of the best recieving cores in the leaguem
