You must have lockons equipped in your load out.

Lock-ons WILL be allowed last I was told, sadly. I was promised no locks earlier on but I guess it fell through, don't remember the full story.

Basic air competency, can use lock-ons while not ramming friendlies. People who participated in scrims last SS season are shoo-ins, the only thing new-to-SS people need to learn is basic group tactics and try not to forget them. Even the best fuck up with what I call "group tactics" because its so different from anything you do on live, usually.
Anything beyond that is a bonus and will just affect where you're placed.

You should practice. They are really hard to use right. Clicking that LMB can get exhausting.

I have been pulling some extra esf's already, but i don't have the tomcats unlocked
i might but i'd have to choose between tomcats, he for my prowler/lighting, a pump action shotgun, hornets and more max weapons

No need for Valkyries. Liberators and Gals are also rare, its almost 100% ESF. Outside of the air platoon they're used by ground guys more.

Well as strange as may sound I use my Valk to take down other planes, but if it's a no it's perfectly fine.

It isn't a matter of your skill, its more that a valk is a slow squishy target for a lot of ESFs hovering at render.
