First time in Ontario! What's the best place to stay downtown for a college student?

University of Michigan Student here staying a night downtown for springbreak with a couple buddies! Any advice for a great time during our first stay in Toronto? What are some good bars? What's the best part of the city? Any particular streets? Good food? Anything will help. Thanks! :)
