Taking a Chance
Hello, so today I have a question for all of you and it would be great if people could get back as quick as possible with some information. I am thinking of moving to Norway from the UK. Here is a breakdown of everything I know so far;
- I know since I am a EU/EEA National I am entitled to work and live in Norway as long as I want. I do know however if after three months of working and living in Norway I continue to stay I need to register.
- I know that to register you just need to fill out an application proving I have work in Norway and hand it into the nearest police station.
- I know that I would also have to apply for a tax deduction card and an ID number of which I need to do all of this at a tax office in person.
- If I register I believe I am entitled to a Primary Doctor if I ever fall ill. I believe that if i register I also become a member of the National Health Service by default.
I think that is everything I need to get me started working in Norway apart from actually having a job. I have that covered though because for the first three months I would have a job working in a hotel (only part time though) as they need English speakers for serving bus groups. I would also be staying with my girlfriend and her family for the first three months as well. However after those three months my girlfriend would move to a student flat in Trondheim. She did say though that if I could find a job in Trondheim I could stay with her in the flat (Apparently that's allowed). So I'm assuming since I am not a student I would be able to get a job pretty easy IF I could speak the language. I guess this is the first hurdle I hit. But if I'm living there for three months surely I could find a summer Norwegian course. I know some basic Norwegian already so I'm assuming it would not take me that long to integrate and pick up some decent amount of language skills if I tried. Surely then someone would employ me in Trondheim. I would also like to continue learning Norwegian in Trondheim as well but I cant seem to find any courses. Oh I should maybe mention I have no degree or anything like that so I guess that is a bit of a drawback. I do have three month work experience from last year when I worked with the Hotel, if that makes any difference. But anyway does this sound like a well thought out plan, is it worth taking the chance just to move to Norway ?
I should also mention that I have the grades to go to University in the UK. So I could always take the bergenstest and have the option to go to university over there. Anyway feel free to tell me what you think? If you want to poke holes in my plan I would welcome it as well. Thanks Reddit.
