Disabling a processor core bricked my laptop

Pretty much sums it up. I turned on the second core to try and get a bit better performance but it turned out not to help with the game I wanted to play. So I go back to msconfig and set it back to only using one core. When I reset it so that would take effect I get taken to a blue screen saying "bad_configuration_info". I can't figure out what could possibly have caused this anywhere else online. Trying to system restore it to an earlier point so hopefully that will work but it seems to be taking forever so in the meantime I just figured I'd ask if anyone knows what might have happened?
