Is there any cheap alcohol that tastes good on it's own without diluted in something else?

I'm 26, but never really tried alcohol till a couple months ago. I never saw the appeal and nobody in family even drinks.

I've tried a couple kinds of beers, but it's always the most fucking disgusting thing. Even root beer is nasty. And they always smell like things that have gone rancid due to the fermentation. I just don't understand why anybody would ever drink Beer after trying it... it is a legitimate torture device to me. I've also tried some boxed wine (which was supposed to be fruity tasting) and it was just as bad, puke inducing after a sip. The guy I gave it to drank it, but also said it was pretty bad (but he still drank it it all). All I could think was "are you really supposed to drink this straight?" It was too much. I've also tried some vanilla vodka mixed with orange juice, which was by far the most tolerable, but it tasted like drinking medical supplies.

I'm starting to think I simply don't like the taste of alcohol (at all), but I know I've probably been making horrible choices as well. What do you think I should try, r/alcohol? And is there is a big difference in things like rum or tequila?
