Pakistanis here, do you know where your forefathers came from (before partition)?

I've met many Pakistanis who don't know the places where their great grandparents come from and it was surprising to hear. They only know about their history after partition. I'm Pakistani. My family traces its roots originally back to Afghanistan. My great grandfather's father was from Kandahar. They settled in Punjab (Indian side) then after partition moved to Lahore. Where are your forefathers originally from? How far back can you trace your roots?
