An appeal to my generation. Some Millennial tough love inside.

Hello Fellow Berners 18-30. I am 25 years old.

What we have seen so far in this cycle is that the youth vote is lagging the elders (+45). In NV for example, 18% of the goers were 17-29, where as 45+ made up more 63% (http://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2016-election/primaries/NV). There is only one way to say it, and its not a revelation - the youth is not showing up. Generation after generation has seen this, and we have a shot to be different with Bernie. Make no mistake, Bernie's political revolution is centered around YOU. The establishment counts on young people not engaging. And hence, the slow progress drags and drags over decades. The moment we decide we will storm, Bernie will start winning states. As we have seen, Bernie could have won Iowa and NV in his sleep if the youth vote was just say, 1.5x as much. Its truly not even asking for a massive bump (at least for these states, but future states will). Imagine that narrative - Bernie won all three states. I truly put the youth vote at the center of this election. We MUST go out and step up. Bernie's revolution = youth revolution. Period. There is no way around it. Where is our fire? We wait in lines for 3 days for a lousy new iPhone, we raid music festivals and concerts, but a few hours every 4 years?? Now indeed, we have done quite a bit, and Bernie is competitive because of our energy. But on voting day, the turn out has been lousy and it has cost us states. But NO MORE! We are tied in delegates now, and we have been granted a fresh opportunity. The establishment is COUNTING ON YOUR ABSENCE. At the very least, show up because they don't want you to show up. Whatever you motivations, be it Bernie's policies of course, or a moral requirement to do good in the world, or just defiance - its all fair game. Show up and light up the country. Set it ABLAZE!! Lets WIN!! Not by an inch or a foot - but if you show up, there will be complete decimation of the strongest political organization in the country (Clinton).

Common responses:

  1. Oh yeah? What are you doing asshole? Answer: Phonebanked, donated ~$500 so far, on the Text for Bernie team, and routinely tabling at our local farmer's market.

  2. Young people are caught up with work. Its a systemic suppression of our voting freedom. Answer: This is no excuse! Plan ahead. Speak to your manager weeks ahead. Make up work time on the weekend or put in the few hours you missed in free overtime if he/she approves. Figure out a way. In fact, some states even protect this right of yours. Someone here will help you out. Just post a question. But engage!! DO NOT ASSUME.

  3. Hey Asshole, I have medical issues and I can't make it. Answer: I sincerely hope for your recovery. Please be with us in spirit :) we will light it up on your behalf.

  4. Please don't make this about demographics. Not Me, US. Answer: Of course its about ALL of us ! Age,race, gender, religion, red, blue, left, right, immigrant etc etc none of that matters for our movement. But so far, the numbers don't lie. This is specifically an appeal to the young generation to step up.
