Starting Chromium in Kiosk mode

I'm trying to start Chromium in Kiosk mode on a pi with an attached 7" screen. I've finally gotten chromium installed and working, but I can't get the pi to boot up to a full screen browser. I've tried tow different methods:

1. modifying /etc/xdg/lxsession/LXDE-pi/autostart as detailed here: https://tranjeeshan.wordpress.com/2015/07/22/how-to-add-startup-programs-in-gnome-3-14-on-debian-8-jessie/

2. Adding a file to ~/config/autostart as detailed here: http://www.0atman.com/auto-start-full-screen-web-page-on-raspbian-jessie-startup.html

Rebooting just bring me to the regular desktop after adding making the modification. Any suggestions?
