Would someone please explain Amazon's pre-order prices?

I'm wanting to procure Star Wars: The Force Awakens on vinyl. The other day it was $34.21 and now it's $48.98. Do they just change their pre-order prices at random? Either way, I'm kicking myself for not having ordered it when it was lower. Also, won't the price and demand of this drop once it has been released?
