Why can't I make new friends?
In high school, I had a number of friends. I had people I could talk to when I was sad, nerdy friends to play video and board games with, and political friends to discuss current events. I wasn't the most popular man ever, and I hadn't had a girlfriend since freshman year, but I was fairly happy.
But then college happened. I'm from the US, but I am attending Univeristy in Switzerland. So now not only are all my friends busy with college, but there's also time zone differences to deal with. Hence, I never speak with them. To make matters worse, I don't really have any friends here at college. For example, this weekend I went to Germany. Alone. Last semester I went to Zurich for a weekend. Alone. I mean sure I have fun, and I like being able to do what I want when I want it, but I'd still like some company. See, my parents and I have always traveled a bunch, so I'm used to, when seeing something cool in say a museum, being able to turn around and point it out to my dad. Now I turn around, and realize I'm standing alone in a room staring at a dinosaur skeleton.
I had friends for the first part of the first semester, but then romance and sex got involved and we all went seperate ways. Beyond that I have only two people I can really call a friend, but one I don't really feel comfortable telling things to becuase he's quite conservative, and the other I rarely see. I participate in extra-curricular activities, but still I can't make friends. There's some juniors and seniors I sometimes hang out with from drama club, but I always feel like an outsider in their group, I'm 2 years younger and they've known each other 2 years longer.
I ramble too much, sorry about that.
