Looking for recommendations for cheap VR set (minecraft/emulator/movies)

Basically, I just want to maybe play some Minecraft, I would like to play some NES games in stereoscopic 3D and watch like those acid trip videos or flying through space type stuff. I haven't played Second Life in years but maybe that would be cool with a VR set.

I would like something I can use with just my mobile but also have the option for USB tethering for use on the PC to minimize lag if needed.

The Vive and the Rift are massively beyond what I'm willing to spend.

I have PCs, iPhone and Samsung Galaxies. I'm not looking for DIY projects unless they're very minimal, because I suck at DIY.

I saw some stuff on this TomTop website, they were cheap but looked a bit sketchy.

I saw this Gizmodo article that looked like what I was looking for, something like that but less DIY and less janky. http://gizmodo.com/notculus-rift-how-i-hacked-together-my-own-serious-vr-1688354373

Any suggestions?
