Playing content to a Smart TV via UPnP - Media playback controls not available

So I discovered I can send video to my Smart TV (Samsung) via UPnP using Kodi. It works, however I can't control playback either through Kodi or with the TV's remote.

I can Stop playback but no pause or seeking which makes it far less functional than my previous solution of connecting the TV as an extended display wirelessly and having Kodi display on the second display and controlling it with Kore/Yatse.

Is there some setting I'm missing either within Kodi or on the TV that will enable controls? Can I change a config somewhere? Get an add-on?
