I don't know how to homestudy, both in effort and in learning

I've never actually learned how to study for anything so I'm having a hard time memorizing things and giving myself the time and patience needed.

I've recently started studying economics at home and I've passed the first chapter of the book because it was mostly memorizing the meaning of certain words, I was far ahead of the subject matuerial but now it's words, theories and math and I don't know how to get it into my head.

I've been marking everything with a big pink pen, using little pink note stickers and writing down questions and turning those questions into a little summary, when I don't really know to write a summary and I don't think I did it that well either.

How do I cram this stuff in my head and how do I get productive again?
