And they wonder why I don't visit (Rant)
I have been pretty LC with my immediate family for close to two years, but Mother died a couple months ago, so I've kinda sorta tried to be a little more available to those who are having a tough time of it and trying to be supportive.
Also, as the only CF female in the family, I am the take no shit, act like a lady/gentleman in public, and I have no qualms about leaving a restaurant when kids start acting out Great Auntie. Basically, if your kid has manners, we will get along fine.
Yesterday, I went to my eldest neices home that she shares with her hubs and two kids. My other neice was also there with her youngest daughter, along with my older Sis, who is the mom of my neices. Anyway, oldest neice is in the process of putting their home on the market for something bigger, so it was a a cleaning party. At one point, oldest neice is cleaning the glass in the sliding glass doors when great neice asks neice if she is going to clean the mirror because it was covered in smudges and hand prints. Neice joked to her "If you're so worried about the mirror, why don't you help clean?" Great neice said she wasn't going to help. I turned to her and said "Auntie was nice enough to have you over and have doughnuts for breakfast and pizza for lunch. The nice thing to do would be to help Auntie out. Her answer, "She didn't buy the doughnuts!" I just shook my head and said to my sister "This is why I don't feel bad for taking the kids xmas/birthday money and donating it to charity." Great neice then got yelled at by her mom for her smart mouth and being rude.
After everyone left, I hung out a little longer to talk with my neice. When I was about to leave, I go into the living room where her kids were watching a movie. I tease my great nephew about his garbage gut and give him a little belly tickle. My great neice moves from one couch to another (apparently I was standing in her way of the tv) and tells me in an exasperated tone "You've been here a long time!" I'm a little startled with what she said and her mother is in silent shock and a look of embarassment on her face. I just give great neice my mean face and tell her that rude comments like that are the reason I don't visit often. I then turned to my great nephew and got a smooch and a hug and told him to be a good boy for mama and daddy and walked out the door.
The sad part is, both of these girls are going to grow up to be mean girls/bullies and I fear for the other kids who feel they have to endure their wrath. But I secretly hope that their eventual victim(s) will punch them both in the nose.
