The Bystander Effect is the most dangerous thing in our online community right now.
The same reason someone can have a heart attack on a crowded street corner and not get any help is the reason so many people out there are still sitting on their couches instead of volunteering.
The Bystander Effect "is a social psychological phenomenon that refers to cases in which individuals do not offer any means of help to a victim when other people are present."
Basically, everyone watching a victim assumes someone ELSE will help. When everyone thinks this, NO ONE helps. We cannot look at the 180,000 people on this subreddit or the 4 million contributions and think "someone else has this covered" Every single one of us needs to have the mindset that there is no one else around and this all depends on us INDIVIDUALLY because that's the truth. Bernie Sanders, our guy who needs help on the street corner, needs everyone of us to step forward.
Don't let others be the change you want to see. BE the change you want to see. This week, there are no excuses. Get Out There.
