[3.5] need some tips for choosing spells for a sorcerer.
im making my first d&d character soon, he will be an insane sorcerer and im really exited to play him. im going to be making the actual character sheet soon with some help from the dm, but i am having some trouble picking spells for him. there are just so many different spells. I've made a list of cantrips and first level spells and narrowed it down, but i just noticed that almost all my spells are damage dealing and i feel like i should have some other spells like support spells and the like. i come from a video game background mainly where im used to most of my spells being damage dealing, but i feel like that shouldnt be the case in d&d. so my question is, what would a good ratio between damage and other spells be. i feel like if i just go all damage all the time, it would lower my effectiveness outside combat, but i really like alot of the combat spells. and between the players handbook and the spell compendium, there are so many to choose from.
