Has special up rate gone down since sockets?

I'm sure there's no conclusive answer here but I swear the specials up rate has gotten worse since sockets came out. At least that's my experience anecdotally.

It might be just bad RNG luck but I haven't gotten a single special up when feeding the Warriors of Shandia units to each other this time. The first time it came out I was able to get Kamakiri and Genbou to one level shy of max, even without a x2 specials event, but during this event I haven't gotten a single special up for either yet. Same goes with Raki.

Is this just me?
