Do you really need 10,000 steps a day?

[Blog post author here]

Hey r/fitness --

A lot of fitness trackers recommend getting 10,000 steps per day. But what does the data actually say? We did an analysis of about 458,000,000 distinct data points from Apple Watch, using both heart rate and step count to narrow down what types of exercise really drive cardiovascular fitness.

The data and analysis is here: http://blog.cardiogr.am/2016/02/12/do-you-really-need-10000-steps-a-day-2/

Happy to answer questions. And curious to hear what you'd like to see in a follow-up analysis.
