Is it weird to be young, gay, and married?

My husband and I (both 24) saw a Seattle Gaymers meetup on Reddit and thought we'd check it out. The group was about our age but the moment we introduced ourselves I heard one of the men say "husband?" while the rest kind of made a face. We left almost immediately. Super awkward, and really disappointing.

Is it a faux pas to be married young? Or to be married and try meeting new people? Or something else entirely?
