Has this ever happened to you?

I was riding my GSX-R in some slow moving traffic with greater Vancouver, BC yesterday, and a cab passed me in the left lane pretty casually (maybe 20kph). Anyways, his passenger in the front seat hangs his whole upper body out of the window to yell at me "faggot, hey faggot!) and proceeds to flip the the bird the whole way by. I was pretty caught off guard and mostly just responded with confused look of "wtf?", then gave him a friendly wave and took my exit. Is this something that happens often? I found it so bizarre I couldn't even be offended.
