Hazing: Right of passage?

When I was in the Army (weapons platoon) hazing was considered an honor. Hell, in a demented kind of way, I actually looked forward to my daily "smoke sessions" as a private. I guess it was my way of showing everyone in my team, squad and platoon that I could handle anything that was thrown at me. Is that how today's army is or is hazing pretty much a thing of the past?
