If you're looking for an alternative racing game, consider giving Riptide GP2 a go.
I'm a long time follower of GameTrailers.com (RIP) and during their final few weeks Kyle Bosman had been raving about this game extensively. I pulled the trigger on it a couple of days ago because it was on sale for just under £3. It's pretty fun, and I think a lot of people here might enjoy it. It reminds me of Wipeout and for some reason, Motorstorm (not really sure why the latter, maybe it's the music?).

It is a port of a mobile game, so don't be expecting anything extragant, but it looks decent considering its origins and it feels good to play. The water physics give your vehicles a nice bouncing feel and you go pretty fast. It's just a nice simple little game. It doesn't have a ridiculous amount of features (one thing that confused me is that the split screen mode doesn't let you manually choose courses or change settings like number of laps, it just does 1 lap races on shuffle) but what's there is quite fun. It doesn't have online multiplayer in the traditional sense but it does work with Share Play. Local multiplayer supports 2-4 player split screen and at 60fps. I think 4 player would be the most fun because there are no NPC racers in multiplayer. There is a full campaign mode but I haven't actually tried it yet. It also has a fairly simple platinum trophy.
There is a sequel coming this year where consoles are the lead platform so that will obviously be much more polished and complete but you can get a good few hours of fun out of this game for a very cheap price. It's like £2.75 or something on the European PSN this week, American one is probably just as cheap. If you're in the market for a racing game that is a little different but very jolly despite being a little rough around the edges, I think you might be pleasantly surprised by this one.
