Question about playing hockey as a person with high myopia/nearsightedness

I'm 27 and I've always wanted to play hockey since I was a kid. Finally got to try it for the first time last week and fell on my face (good thing I was wearing a helmet with a cage though).

Falling doesn't bother me and my eyes have been good to me, but with high myopia/nearsightedness (-9 in both eyes), there is a high risk of retinal injuries (i.e. retina detachment, vision loss). I got a tear in one eye a few years back just playing basketball with people. Plus, I'm very clumsy and a bit rusty on my skating. So my plan now is to get the basics of skating down first and continue practicing by myself.

I'm probably never going to play on a team. But even the future for playing casually on my own for fun doesn't seem bright. Hockey makes me happy but I'm not sure how to pursue this hobby seriously while also keeping my health in mind. Any suggestions? Also, I wear glasses (no contacts). Thank you!
