"But my baby boy should stay with MEEEEE!"

So I'm new here, but I have a few stories to share that I think you'll all enjoy.

My boyfriend, Steve has been working on the other side of the country for 6 months. He's doing a 12-month contract and then we'll decide if I'm moving there or he's coming home. Steve's and I are not married, but have been together nearly 10 years and plan to be engaged soon after this contract is done.

Steve's company generously offered to pay for 8 round-trip flights during the 12-month contract, either for me to visit him or for him to come home. So far, I've been going to visit him because he hasn't felt comfortable leaving his new team of employees unsupervised for too long. However, he decided that he'd come home for a week this time. (Yay!)

When he told me he was coming home he asked me to please arrange visits with family and friends during the time that he'd be here. No problem, I've organized meals with his extended family, his friends, my extended family, and his immediate family. 4 separate meals that I've organized and will be hosting within a week. Everybody lives close, so nobody will have to stay over. I thought it was golden.

I called FMIL to invite her and FFIL to both family dinners, and she told me "oh, you didn't need to plan anything! Steve is staying with me, I've already made all the arrangements to get him from the airport and everything! You can come to visit for an evening, if you'd like."

Cue a quick goodbye and call to Steve to double check that, no, he hadn't given her any reason to believe he'd be staying with her. In fact, he told her that I'd be organizing his stay and to expect to be invited to our place for a few meals that week. I asked him to call his mother and clear up any "confusion".

The next morning, I wake up to a tearful voicemail all about how I'm stealing away her precious son, how she understands that he's growing up, but that he's her baby and should stay with her while he's here, and how shocked she is that he'd choose to stay with me. In the house that we own. Together. Because we are fucking adults in a fucking relationship. Fuck.
