Had a plumber come out to do a "rooter" service on my main sewer line. Whatever they did made holes in the main line and now the main line itself is leaking. (Raleigh North Carolina, x-post to /r/plumbing)
Holy crap, I don't know what to do. Luckily the main line is leaking into the crawl space of the house and not anywhere in the rest of the house, but this seems like it will obviously be a costly repair. Am I going to have to pay for this or should I expect the plumber to fix it for free? I have never had anything like this happen before.
I just called the plumber a few minutes ago and he said he was going to have his boss call me.
The line was an older cast-iron line that seemed to be in good shape. Very little rust inside it, I probably could have gotten years of use from it before having to replace with PVC or ABS. I'm ballparking it here, but to replace it will probably be like $6,000. Not sure what a patch would cost.
