If I start a world now, will I be able to continue that world in 1.9?

Hi guys, I know this may be a stupid/silly question, but I'm just wondering if it's possible to start a world on this patch, then continue playing it in 1.9 with all the new stuff (elytra etc)? Thanks for the help!
