CPU over voltage error UPDATE
Two days ago i posted about my problem with "CPU Over Voltage Error !" in BIOS. I gathered some more data to hopefully help with discovering the cause.
To indulge you:
I moved everything from my computer to a new case and replaced my old card with [SAPPHIRE NITRO Radeon™ R9 390 8G] (http://www.sapphiretech.com/productdetial.asp?pid=FF539E23-7718-4BDE-9E02-CF174D2BFCC2&lang=eng) and old power supply with EVGA SuperNOVA 650 G2 Power Supply.
After first boot I got this message "CPU Over Voltage Error !" and an option of pressing F1 to go to bios. This is what monitor tab shows http://imgur.com/QBUf9Pl.
After this i did the following things to try and resolve the issue:
- reset bios by removing battery and holding power button for 10+ seconds
- reset bios using jumper
- plugging my old PSU (not powering my graphic card of course). the problem still remains even after changing PSU leading me to believe that PSU is not the issue
- remove the motherboard to inspect it for any visible damage (light scratching, nothing looking too serious/bad )
- inspect cpu for any bend pins, visible problems
- make sure the standoffs are not shorting the back of the motherboard
- unpluging anything not necessary - dvd drive, one ram stick, graphic card, network cable and usb connections
- cry
- check numerous times that every cable is connected correctly
- looked on the internet for any solutions
At the moment I'm keeping the computer running without most things including graphic card and monitoring via CPUID Hardware Monitor PRO. Here are the stats after about half an hour of not touching it:http://imgur.com/a/F6pgW.
I don't own any compatible motherboard or CPU to test these separately.
From all this information my two theories are these:
optimistic: During the instalation of the motherboard into a new case the sensors broke and are showing wrong values. There is no problem with it and I'm free to proceed and enjoy my new rig.
pessimistic: There is a problem most likely on the motherboard between the input cables (which provide the right amount of voltage according to sensors) and CPU which is complaining about too much voltage and tries it hardest to regulate it to keep the core in safe values. This will require me to buy a new motherboard with no way to repair the old one.
What is your opinion on this ? Shouldn't the high voltage just destroy my cpu almost immediatly or at least over heat it ? Do you have an idea what to do/try ? I'm thankfull for any suggestions and opinions on this.
TLDR : Input voltage is 3,5 V, computer seems to be running fine. Sensors problem or motherboard toast ?
Update: After opening a web browser the temperatures on core jumped to the 90+. After noticing this i quickly turned the computer off, not checking the voltage values. This pretty much confirms that its not a sensor problem. Damnit. No way to save this motherboard it seems.
