Need Help Buying a New (or used) Guitar

I've been playing guitar for a few years now and have been playing on an old cheap Yamaha. I'm ready for a better guitar but have no idea what to get.

I play in a band that does punk stuff and I play open chords, bar chords, and power chords with and without palm mutes and some other stuff. Looking to get something that works well with that.

Price range is $150 - $250 and I'm down for used stuff. Will be going to a music store nearby this week to look at guitars and play around with a few of them. Any suggestions would be great!
