Here's how to use google instead of tumblr's built in search for better results

I've noticed tumblr search results are gutted. If I try a multi word search like "cat wearing hat" on tumblr, I get to the end of the search results pretty quickly.

Conversely, if I go to google, type "cat wearing hat site:tumblr.com", and go to images, there's a never ending stream of cats wearing hats on tumblr.

P.S: I'd be curious to know why tumblr's search turns up so little, and if there's an extension to fix this problem.
