Small changes that snowballed. I DID IT (the healthy way)! 22F SW: 145+lbs GW: 125 CW: 119

Edit: Shoot, somehow forgot to mention that I'm 5'2''!

Here's a list of small changes I made, chronologically, that led to a 25lb weight loss in under a year.

  • May: Graduated from college. Highest weight of my life. Binge drinking and ordering out seriously decreased when I moved to Yellowstone for the summer.
  • Summer 2015: I spent it working hard as a cleaning lady and hiking a ton in Yellowstone. Basically had an "I can eat whatever I want as long as I exercise some!" attitude, which meant I lost some weight, but that wasn't the focus.
  • August: Moved to Seattle, living with three skinny kale eating bitches (I mean it lovingly--they've taught me so much)
  • September: Started drinking two liters of water a day
  • October: Got weighed at the doctors and only weighed 133lbs? Wow. Small changes are beginning to add up...
  • November: Got a fitbit to measure activity at work. I love data. Tried to hit 10k steps a day, 20+ flights of stairs a day, and eat within the calorie limits.
  • December: Tried a 30 day ab challenge. Wasn't going to, but read a quote about the next 30 days passing by regardless of what you do...so why not try to get better abs? Saw results so quickly, and was motivated to keep going.
  • January: Realized the simple genius of CICO. Counted calories meticulously, still ate fantastic foods (just smaller amounts of them).
  • February: Joined a gym! Started running! Ran a 5k! Fitness makes me HAPPY! I now weigh 119lbs, fit into smalls and extra smalls, and feel absolutely fantastic. I am so full of energy and life!

My experience is a testament to the value of small lifestyle changes that add up over time. After years of disordered eating, I'm no longer going to the gym to punish myself, but because those endorphins feel good. I'm not limiting my food intake as a means to lose weight quickly or offset something greasy I ate, but because I have control now over calories and know what I need to do to fuel my body.

Soo...what should I do now? I think I'm going to focus on fitness goals, like running a 5k in an actual race, or perhaps a sprint triathlon. Do you have any comments or suggestions on my body composition? I'm not sure what my body fat % is, but I have a 24.5 in waist and 35 in hips. My boyfriend and my mom think I should stop losing weight and focus on muscle. What do you think?

Thank you to Loseit, XXFitness, and even the straight talking shit lords over at Fatlogic for helping me get here. You are an AMAZING source of inspiration, knowledge and motivation to keep going. Thanks to you all!
