I want to read more, I like detective mysteries/thrillers/heists, comedy elements are a bonus

I'm not an avid reader, I probably read around 20 books in my life, now I want to change that. English is not my native language, and I'd like to expand my english vocabulary by reading, but that's not the main reason I want to read. I want to immerse myself in stories, make my brain work a little (not really happening when watching movies).

Some books I read:

Sherlock Holmes Complete - great detective stories, but most of the time the solution is not presented to the viewer in a way that he can place it together, it relies on sherlocks' abilities (chemist, tobacco expert) this bothers me sometimes.

Burglars can't be choosers - this one is pretty funny, but I heard the sequels are all "samey", so not sure if I should continue.

I also read the first Dark Tower book, but it was a little too slow paced for me.

I also want to get an ebook reader/tablet, haven't decided on that yet.

Some movies/TV I really like to make it easier for you to recommend books:

Sherlock, Columbo, Broadchurch, And then there were none(2015), Murder on the orient express(1974), Death on the nile(1978), Zodiac, The prestige, Rope

Mission impossible and Ocean's movies (for the comedy and heists)

Important thing, I hate when the plot is not moving forward for pages, it just drags on and on with descriptions of trees and stuff, so I'd like to avoid books like that
