Can I break lease?
Our landlord emailed us a few days ago starting he wants to sell the condo we are renting starting April 1st. Our lease is up at the end of May. He said he and his realtor wanted to come over and talk to us about showing the house. My husband and I do not feel comfortable with showings. We know we legally have to work with him because he is the owner. However my husband and I both work, have a 2.5 year old, and a dog. While I would say I'm a clean person our place is usually covered with toys! I pick up each night but there's no guarantee that it will stay like that before we leave for work. We sold our home a year and a half ago. We know the kind of work that goes into selling a home. I feel like it would be more beneficial to him if we terminated our lease early and we would feel more comfortable not having to go through the selling process.
Legally we know: He has the right to sell He has the right to showings within a 24 hour notice We don't have to leave for a showing We don't have to make it sparkle for a showing
Is there anything we can do to help us terminate the lease? We are even willing to give up our security deposit. Can he have showings several days a week? I read that landlords should stay within the 8-5 timeframe. Is this true?
Any advice would be helpful. I feel like we've gone out of our way with a lot of things while we've lived here and it's upsetting that we have to go through this entire process when we just want out!
There is nothing in our lease that talks about selling.
Thank you!!
