Questions on plumbing apprenticeships in Calgary.

I am looking at changing careers, and was curious about looking for a plumbing apprenticeship.

How secure is the plumbing industry in Alberta? Should I just approach different companies and ask them if they are interested in hiring a first year apprentice? What is the average wage for each level of apprentice for plumbing in Alberta?

I was looking at the pre-employment program at SAIT, but a lot of people seemed to say it wasn't worth it. What are your thoughts?

How many years do most people take to finish each apprentice level? Can you get overtime and complete in less than 4?

Do you get benefits as an apprentice?

Will I need tools before I can start?
