Duplicating Maps?

So I have browsed around and it looks like the only way people have duplicated maps so far is through manipulating JSON through chrome extensions and stuff. That's not something I'm fond of doing, just out of general paranoia about downloading things off the web. Is there any other way to do it? Is it a feature in the works maybe?
