Stocking suggestions for 29 gallon with Krib or Apisto pair?

I am starting a 29g soon. Any suggestions for tankmates? I definitely want to do a biotope aquarium. I would love to see some variety in size and some surface and bottom dwellers in the mix if possible! I usually have harder well water with a neutral pH, but I might be getting a r/o system soon.
