nMom is trying to manipulate my sister into choosing a school closer to where she lives.
So, I posted a while back about how nervous I was due to some radio silence from my nMom. Turns out, she's turned her attention fully to my sister. My sister has recently been accepted to some prestigious medical schools and even though it gives my nMom major bragging right among her friends, she is using it to hurt my sister.
Essentially, my sister lives in a city 4 hours away from my nMom right now. She was accepted to a great school in that city (where she also currently works) but is interested in a few other schools. One is 2 hours away from my nMom and is an Ivy League, the other is 2 time zones away and is a state school.
Since I already live 2,000 miles away from my nMom and my brother is VLC with her (protecting his 1.5 year old child), my little sister is the last one that my nMom can really cling to and manipulate and try to keep close to her physically.
nMom is using all her energy to convince my sister not to go to the state school (which has better funding and is cheaper and has a better program for what my sister wants to do). She is putting a weird twist on it. She says it's because my sister is "obviously going to have a baby once she finishes medical school" so she needs my nMom to be nearby to "help."
This is very fucking weird. First of all, my sister is 26, not married and dating a very busy dental student, and has NEVER expressed her desire to procreate right now. Her main goal in life is to go into conservation research and try to save the world. Second of all, my nMom is making insane plans in her head that she just expects my sister to go along with. She's convinced that my sister will go to medical school, marry her dentist boyfriend at some point during this time, graduate then a year later have a baby.
Like...what? nMom has even gone so far as to say that she was planning on moving to the state where the Ivy League school is to be closer to my sister and help her raise her children. Which my sister thinks is insane because if my sister does attend this school, she doesn't intend on staying in that city or state.
In addition to this, my nMom keeps calling my sister to remind her how cold the state school is and how much is snows there. She keeps saying, "Don't forget that it's sooo cold there!" And my sister is like "I haven't forgotten since the last time you called me to tell me that."
My sister has called me a few times over the past few weeks to express her frustration over my nMom's "plans." I've been trying to be supportive without swaying her decision-making--even though I know she prefers the state school, I just tell her that I'm proud she got into all these schools and I trust her judgement on the ultimate choice.
I'm afraid for my sister because nMom has already screwed her by convincing her to attend a huge private school for undergrad and taking out loans without telling her the amounts because nMom calls student loans "free money." (Which is a complete lie and not free and she almost did the same thing for me during my undergrad but I had the sense to stop her before she did too much damage.)
