Future or one day at a time?

I'm 25 and have been dealing with symptoms practically my whole life, and even now that my psychotic symptoms are gone, I'm still not "normal". I can't imagine living for a few more months much less 60 more years. The "one day at a time" approach seems terrible to me because it makes everything seem even longer. Has anyone found a happy medium for this?
