[Help] Dog drools like a water fountain when we get in the car.
Hi all,
My dog drools like a water fountain when we're in the car. Actually, it starts before we even get in the car; it starts when he knows we're getting in the car.
When I adopted him from the shelter, we learned that his last owner left him there because he "gets car sick." She was moving from New York to Texas and took his brother, but left him behind.
Turns out, he isn't car sick, he's car anxious. He has only vomited twice in my car since August, and IMO, it's a symptom of the anxiety, not motion sickness. When I say he drools like a fountain, I'm not kidding. He rides in the back seat on a dog mat and it is completely soaked by the time we reach our destination. He does do a bit better when my girlfriend is able to ride in the backseat with him, but that's not always practical.
Has anyone dealt with this and do you have any advice on how we could help him feel more comfortable in the car? He has made improvement since August (when we adopted him), because I think he's starting to realize that the car = fun places.
