New to hue, advice and suggestions please!

Hello, I'm new to this sub. I have my first hue order of a bridge, 3 bulbs, bloom, iris and a strip arriving from Costco UK in 3 days and I can't wait! Is this a decent enough starter set-up? What are the best way to use these?

I've seen a lot of talk about dimmer switches, are these necessary or can I control everything from my phone and tablet? Any suggestions for good iOS apps (practical or quirky) would be really appreciated. Thanks.
