Looking for more dignity and respect for myself :S
Just to get it out of the way, I'm 22 years old for the sake of comparison.
I'm kind of a geek and my investment in video games and I severely lack social skills to the point of feeling crippled, and the issues extend by the fact that I have social anxiety disorder.
See, I was always kind of like this because from when I was a kid I didn't like sports (that's an understatement) and I was often told or insinuated to by friends that I talked too much about games and as years went by people sorted me away from their group. Needless to say my interests are like a perversion especially because I've mentalized through my peers and feel like I'm lacking respect for myself by not living up to what I consider my own standards. I also tend to judge people according to the "norm" and it's getting complex.
I did try to challenge myself by indulging in music and learning guitar which led me to joining a band and generally becoming more sociable for a while. I also wasn't the last person to start drinking (when I was 14 lol) but despite all my efforts I've somehow ended up being consumed in video games anyway, and accordingly I joined an institution this summer to learn games developments and be around people who also care about games.
...but still, it's too much and too one-sided, even for me, but despite my realizing this I don't really do anything to break the cycle and I feel like I lack growth and that I'm immature, especially next to some of my remaining friends who constantly seem to have evolved and changed since high-school.
I need better social skills so I can easily meet people and know how to make myself comfortable around them and in turn make them feel comfortable being around me (not to mention not sorting me off as a geek).
I look good, I'm not exactly strong but I'm neither too slim or fat, but I keep a decent hygiene, shave my beard and stuff and I often tend to deceive people by how I don't look like a nerd but after a conversation or two it becomes obvious that I'm an awkward guy with nothing interesting to share.
Keep in mind I have some anxiety issues. I am always sharing experiences and advice over at r/socialanxiety for that issue, but I'd love some advice on how to improve myself as a person and what I can do to replace my relatively toxic hobby (to my personal life) with something else I may enjoy, but not completely, and I want to be better at being forthcoming and personable to other people.
